Statement on the Resignation of the Christakises

We were saddened to hear about the resignation of Nicholas and Erika Christakis from their posts as Head and Associate Head of Silliman College. Their resignation demonstrates the setbacks that free speech has faced at Yale since the protests of last November. These events set a dangerous precedent that students need not tolerate divergent viewpoints and can intimidate individuals who question their logic, rhetoric, or actions. It is regrettable that this outcome is likely to embolden the enforcers of intellectual conformity on campus. However, the Buckley Program remains committed to defending free expression on Yale’s campus.
